Wheelchair Rugby Quad Nations a hit in Cardiff!
It was gold for Conker this week as we blew the whistle on a smashing campaign for the Wheelchair Rugby Quad Nations. Our goal? To raise awareness of the sport’s move to Rugby’s capital city and touch-down with a brand-new Cardiff-based audience before the much-anticipated 2023 Wheelchair Rugby European Championship next May!
We were thrilled to secure the wheelchair rugby account back in May, with the Quad Nations leading the sport’s exciting journey to Wales. National teams from Great Britain, Germany, France, and Canada took to the court to battle it out in a weekend of nail-biting action!
This project builds on Conker’s growing portfolio of sporting events – more specifically our experience with paralympic and disability sports, including our hard hitting campaign for Manchester’s 2021 World Para Powerlifting World Cup.
Given the Quad Nations’ decision to move the competition from Leicester to Cardiff this year, the team was presented with the unique challenge to build a new local audience whilst keeping the door open for the sport’s more established fans. We engaged in outreach using tried and tested methods such as:
- Targeted digital ads focusing on Cardiff and surrounding areas
- Grassroots leafleting at local sporting events
- Networking with local sports teams and organisations
Utilising our practical expertise (and trademark Conker moxie!) the team delivered a dynamic multi-channel campaign across digital, social, email, and PR – boosting awareness of the Quad Nations event to ensure a vibrant weekend of thrills, spills, and sporting drama, ending with Canada taking home the title!
Conker’s next wheelchair rugby challenge is already underway as we begin prepping for the 2023 Wheelchair Rugby European Championship, with the event set to take place on its biggest stage yet – the iconic Principality Stadium, Cardiff! Find out more about the European Championship here.
